Clayville Fall Festival
September 19 & 20, 2020
Fall Festival is scheduled for the 3 rd weekend in September. At fall festival, we are joined by area
artisans and period correct demonstrators. Step back in time to 1820-1850. Be sure to take a tour of
The Broadwell Inn. It was completed in 1824 and was the stagecoach stop between Springfield and
Beardstown. You might even get a tour from the 6 th great granddaughter of Moses Broadwell, or one of
our many volunteer tour guides.
While the Inn is the only building original to the site, we are also glad to have the Batterton cabin and
the “white” cabin. Both cabins are period correct and interesting to tour. We also have a working
blacksmith shop and a tinsmith.
A tractor pulled tram will pick you up in the parking lot, drop you at admissions and take you to the
front door of the Inn or cabins. The 10 th Illinois Volunteer Cavalry will be with us to teach about early
military life. They will also be looking for new recruits! Watch for them to demonstrate quick draw skills
and generally keep us safe for the weekends. Chaplin likes to start off Sunday morning with a period
correct prayer meeting. The public is always invited.
Children’s activities are always free with admission. Volunteers will assist children in chores and crafts
that are period correct. Our favorite activities include candle dipping and making yarn dolls.
Watch for special guests that appear at festival. Professor Long hair likes to teach about magic, Chris
Camp “the Whip Guy”, and Katherine Harris as Harriet Tubman are just a few guests we have had.
Of course we will also have food and music.
We are always looking for period demonstrators or encampments. Handmade crafts of any era are
welcome. Please let us know if you would like to join the fun at fall festival . Call or text Clayville at
